    PLEASE look through the lost and found (outside the MP Room) before the holiday break.  All items left in the lost and found after this week will be donated.


    Gift Ideas -- Visit the Farmers' Market on Thursday

    Still have holiday shopping to do? Maybe you would like to treat yourself to a special gift? Shop at the Ohlone Farmers' Market today after school outside the MP room. In addition to the usual delicious treats, there will be special offerings such as:
    • Felted soaps made with wool from the Ohlone sheep & soap from Opal'z. These are like a washcloth and soap in one.
    • "Lump of Coal" soaps donated by Opal'z.
    • Lemon Verbena tea and Lavender Bath Salts made with herbs from the Ohlone garden.
    • Winter greenery to decorate your home, make a special centerpiece for your dining table, or to do a craft project during the winter break.

    Ohlone Book Club -- A Whole New Mind -- Discussion on Jan 5
    Ohlone Book Club: " A Whole New Mind: Why Right-Brainers Will Rule the Future" by Daniel Pink.

    This year, Bill Overton and the Ohlone Core Values Committe are excited to continue the Ohlone Book Club with Daniel Pink's insightful book: A Whole New Mind. This is a fun and quick read, just in time for winter break.

    We are even more excited to announce that our very own School Board Member, Barbara Klausner will be leading our Ohlone book club selection. Copies available for purchase in the Ohlone office or if you buy it from Kepler's, mention Ohlone and Ohlone will get money from your purchase.

    The Ohlone Ice Skating Party is Coming Soon -- Order tickets
    Order your tickets for a fun filled evening at Winter Lodge on Friday, January 8, 2010 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.

    This is an Ohlone community building event that is fun for the whole family. Order forms are included in the Arrow or located in the office. Tickets sometimes sell out so get them while they last. Tickets for skating, including skates, are $15.00. Pizza (2 pieces) and drink are offered for an additional $3.00. Spot Pizza is providing the pizza at a generous discount.

    PAUSD Everyday Mathematics Parent Information Night
    Thurs. Jan. 14, 7-9pm,
    Barron Park, 800 Barron Avenue, Palo Alto

        "Algorithms in Everyday Mathematics (Grades 2-5)"  

    Why are alternative algorithms taught in Everyday Mathemetics?  Isn't it better to teach one standard procedure for each operation?

    This session will address the research basis and philosophy for including alternative and traditional algorithms for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division in the mathematics curriculum.  Discussion and presentations will include examples of the focus algorithms used in Everyday Mathematics and resources for parents to support their children at home.

    PAUSD Budget Input Sought -- Take the survey
    Reminder: The Palo Alto PTA Council is making it easy for parents to give input into what PAUSD budget cuts should be made these next few years by creating a quick and easy survey where you choose what cuts you'd like to see and what not.

    LEGOs and Trains -- Living LEGO-CY at The Museum of American Heritage -- Fri/Sat/Sun thru 1/17

    MOAH, The Bay Area LEGO® User Group (BayLUG) and Bay Area LEGO Train Club (BayLTC) are again combining forces this winter to repeat last year's spectacular Holiday season display at MOAH. MOAH visitors can explore a variety of LEGO creations and an operating LEGO train layout featuring a wide variety of creations by club members. Highlighting it all is Holidays in the Bay Area, a 12 by 25 foot train layout incorporating multiple trains running through city, farm, and suburban scenes.

    Palo Alto Children's Theatre Presents The Nutcracker -- 12/17 to 12/20

    The Palo Alto Children's Theatre invites students to a special after-school matinee performance of The Nutcracker Thurs. Dec. 17, 4:30pm. Celebrate the season with an enchanting production featuring a talented cast of forty children ages eight to fourteen.

    This holiday classic, set to Tchaikovsky's thrilling score, about a girl who travels to a magical dream world of snow flakes and sugar plums to help a wooden nutcracker defeat a nasty army of mice and regain his throne, is brought to life with magical sets, costumes, and lighting design by Emily Greene, Amanda Lin Carlson and Pamela Gray, respectively. This stage adaptation of E.T.A Hoffman's 1816 original is directed by Artistic Director Judge Luckey, with choreography by Gabor Simon.

    Children’s Fine Art Classes in All Mediums for Teens, Kids and Tots -- Register now

    Give the gift of art. Register someone you love in a Children’s Fine Art class provided by the Palo Alto Art Center. CFA offers classes at the Junior Museum and Zoo, the Palo Alto Art Center, and Mitchell Park Center. Most of the teachers are working artists; all of them are wonderful art educators. They help children learn the skills need to bring creativity into their adult lives. Your early registration insures you get the classes you want and helps us too.
